  • Reporting to the Commissioner of Public Works, the Senior Manager of Development Engineering and Environmental Services is responsible for:  Providing timely and accurate technical advice and guidance to staff;  Meeting with developers, consultants, contractors, public, and staff relating to development issues;  Directing engineering reviews and preparing comments on site plan applications, rezoning applications, building permit applications, land division applications and Committee of Adjustment applications;  Directing and performing engineering review of subdivision and drainage submissions from the draft plan stage to construction;  Directing the completion of storm water management and water resource planning, master plans and design for ponds, sewers and other storm drainage assets including emerging technologies/facilities to manage quality and quantify runoff and to mitigate the affects of climate change;  Providing consultation and direction to the Construction section for development related construction, Coordinate with other Departments to ensure comments are prepared in a logical and timely fashion;  Coordinate with other sections of the Public Works Department to ensure development complies with standards, policies and practices and that maintenance and asset management requirements are considered in engineering approvals;  Preparing and monitoring of budget; identification of financial contributions and property requirements to be conveyed to the Town through development applications;  Negotiation and determination of Town cost-sharing related to infrastructure upgrades through development;  Providing input the Development Charge By-Law, Development and Building Application Fees;  Development and review of new policies, procedures, engineering standards and customer care strategies;  Preparing and/or reviewing staff reports to Council and attending Council meetings as required;  Representing the Public Works Department in major studies;  Providing leadership and guidance to staff in administration matters;  Providing responses to residents, stakeholders regarding various development, drainage, or construction concerns;  Other duties as assigned.

    Reporting to the Director of Transportation Operations and Maintenance, you’ll provide leadership to a multi-functional workforce engaged in the delivery and direction of services to the public and internal clients, promoting teamwork and integration within the Division and with customers and other parties participating in cross-functional and cross-program initiatives.

    As a Senior Project Manager, Transportation Operations, you’ll recommend service delivery policy and improvement strategies to meet mandated goals and objectives, and evaluate financial, administrative and performance against internal and external benchmarks and performance metrics. We will also rely on you to undertake functions relating to capital project scope preparation, review and comment on capital project design drawings and development application requests, and monitor, analyse and report on the program delivery performance metrics.

    Using a "best practices" approach, you’ll develop and deliver quality services in a timely, cost-effective manner, and ensure that Transportation Engineering initiatives are delivered in accordance with City and Provincial guidelines through the effective, efficient use of financial and staff resources. Another important aspect of your role will involve research and administrative duties such as the evaluation, planning, design and implementation of transportation infrastructure to meet the growing needs of City of Hamilton residents and businesses.
